HELLO, WE’RE EVERYDAY WATTS

Curious about
where the watts go.

Wattie, our friendly yellow lightning mascot, giving a thumbs up

Everyday Watts helps US readers understand electricity use, make sense of energy-monitoring devices, and plan backup power for the things they rely on. Marvin Smit is the site’s owner and editorial lead. Wattie is our friendly mascot.

Our starting point is simple: measure what matters before buying something to fix it. A useful reading can tell you more than a big savings promise.

How these guides were made. Our launch guides draw on primary sources, including manufacturers, ENERGY STAR and university extension publications. We link those sources and show the publication date. AI tools assist with drafting and development; the material is reviewed before publication. This is source-based editorial work, not proof of hands-on experience with the products mentioned.

What we haven’t tested. We have not performed product tests for our current guides. Manufacturer specifications are identified as such. Our buying guides explain their selection criteria, evidence and limitations. A feature list will never be described as a lab test.

How we handle numbers. Calculator results depend on your inputs. Examples are labeled, electricity rates are editable, and estimates do not include every part of a utility bill. We do not promise a percentage saving or a payback period.

How the site is funded. Our buying guides contain Amazon US affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Product choices follow the needs and evidence described in each guide. Read our affiliate disclosure for the current status.
